Pets and their owners are another favorite subject of Sanae's art. This particular piece is a pencil drawing of Jon and Jessie. Jon is Sanae's son-in-law and Jessie was the family dog for nearly 15 years. Jessie was a mix between a Japanese Shiba and a German Shepard. She selected us at the Sunnyslope animal shelter when my youngest daughter turned 15 or so. Her older sister is the one that married Jon.
We went to the animal shelter to look for a dog and Jo, the daughter, took Jessie for a walk in the small garden they have there. Jessie was looking in interest everywhere and was showing little interest in Jo who bent her knees, sat down, looked up at me and said, "I don't think she likes us." No sooner had she said this than Jessie turned around, put one paw on each of her shoulders, knocked her over on her back and began licking her face! It was something out of a Walt Disney movie. Needless to say, Jessie took us home!
